Restoration of historical building - Malá Františkánská Znojmo
Šašinka, Jaromír ; Hubáček,, Petr (referee) ; Myslín, Jiří (advisor) ; Kalousek, Lubor (advisor)
Bachelor´s thesis is based on a studio project created in the summer term of third year of bachelor studies. The main theme of this project is architecture restoration of a Gothic burgher town house. The building site is located in the conservation area of the town Znojmo, on the corner of streets Malá Františkánská and Klácelova, nearby the St. Nicholas church. The house underwent both baroque and classicist reconstruction. Early in the 21st. century, the house lost its roof and, in the course of several following years, the ceiling structures collapsed. What has been preserved by now is the gothic entrance portal and some fragments of the exterier gothic masonry. Although the house is located inside an ancient urban conservation area, I have decided for an unusual architecture solution. My main idea was to design simple modern structure in harmony with the gothic masonry. I decided not to place new structures on the top of the ruins of the gothic masonry but to place the new mass of the building behind the gothic walls. There is glass fasade on the first floor of the building which provides comunication between interier and exterier through the ruins of exterier gothic masonry. The simple structure of second floor is raised on collumns behind the glass facade. The shape of structure refers to buildings surround. Exterier material finish of the structure is concrete facade panel (same material on walls and roof). The important part of exterier are frames of windows in the second floor. And the structure of elevator. The building will be used as gallery of modern art with bar&cafe. There will be preserved renaissance vault in the basement.

The submission of this thesis was preceded by a specialised studio „Brněnské nábřeží a kulturní čtvrť Ponava“. This work focused on a complex urban architectural solution to the area around the former “Jaselská kasárna”, the urban context, transport services, the field configuration etc. The thesis follows this project in a section defined by streets U Červeného mlýna, Staňkova and Střední. The goal of the thesis lies in the creation of an intensive goal – a cultural area, which will offer a high-quality space for intergenerational communication and new social experiences and activities. It newly connects the urban part Ponava with the town center of Brno by a high-quality axis for pedestrian and cycling transport. The project of this cultural area arose after a thorough analysis of surrounding, intercity and global relations as a combination of aims: for children – the elementary art school with graphic and dancing fields, for seniors – leisure time center, and for all together - a multifunctional concert hall and a revitalized area of the former industrial zone of furniture production to a multipurpose intergenerational area with a modern art gallery, offices for young businessmen, architects and artists, and a music club in the basement of the gallery.

The theme of the project was to create a new gallery of modern art. The gallery will be used by the residents of all age groups from Brno and its surroundings. The land is located on the territory of Brno-Kraví hora. It is delimited by the street Kraví hora, adjacent park with astronomical observatory and planetarium and the allotments. The plot is in the sloping terrain and is currently located with 21 objects serving business entities. The plot is largely surrounded by the greenery of the gardens and adjacent park. The nearest building is an observatory and planetarium. In the vicinity there is also a sports centre and swimming pool. In its proposal, I therefore created another park in which the objects of gallery are integrated and which continuously builds on an already existing park. The Gallery is divided into three buildings, which are connected by an underground communication object. It is also designe dan object with a café and a lecture hall and object with the studios. In the northern corner of the plot is designed parking place, arrival is secured after the street Kraví hora. In the south-western boundary of the plot is terraced slope adapted for leisure activities. My intention was to design a smaller amounts, which may be easier to integrate into a park environment. Objects have only one floor. Gallery objects have another underground floor, which is to ensure the communication between them. Plans have a simple trapezoid shape, which is expanding away from the center of the square, around which are arranged. Roofs are standard with a different slant. Object with the studios has a different height levels.
